G'Day from Northern NSW!

Last Sunday I took a minute or so to share the three "ingredients" in our church gatherings: the people of God, the Word of God and the Spirit of God. It's important to know these ingredients so you can fully participate in what we believe is critical to gatherings that help us continue to grow as followers of Jesus.

Understanding the value of each ingredients helps us value every person (and their day/week!) who joins us, being attentive to the words that are shared from the Bible and all learning to build each other up as God's Holy Spirit guides us (a scripture, prophetic word, prayer, insight/revelation etc).

But, aside from what we do, what can we expect to feel?

We're just finishing up two nights away, camping in Northern NSW. We setup a tent, cooked by fire, walked on hills and beaches, surfed and roasted marshmallows. But our trip won't be remembered because of an accumulation of all we did. The trip will be remembered by what we felt  - the vibes we experienced amidst all these activities together.

A friend and mentor asked me last year, "What can people expect when they gather with you for church?" Rather than answer by the three activities or ingredients that make up our gathering, it seemed best to articulate it in one word: love.

For us, I think church should feel like a visible, gathered expression of Jesus' command to "love up and love out". When we gather, we should feel like a group of Jesus followers who truly love God and truly love each other.

As soon as someone turns up, there should be some sense in which they, and each of us, are truly loved and embraced. As we connect, listen, share and pray there should be a sense that we are also actively expressing our love to God,  not just sharing religious activities or words.

While a sense of God's love is really a work of God's Spirit, it's clear that He typically chooses to work through each of us! So when we gather, please come not just expecting that you will experience a sense of love, but that you can contribute to it by God's Spirit!

Cheers and God Bless,

Dan
