19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:19-20
It was wonderful to worship and pray with you all last Sunday!
Not only was it a lovely time to honour God, we prayed for those with addictions, those with upcoming births and so much more.
It was a great reminder that there are so many people with so many needs around us. This should be a reminder that for most of us, God is looking to use us right where we are: in the homes we are in, in the jobs we are in, in the suburbs we are in, and yes, in the churches we are in!
This idea that God probably has us right where he wants us, is a challenging concept. It's a concept that Martine and I have faced head on many times in our short life!
You see, we tried to be missionaries. We tried hard.
We had to cancel a trip to afghanistan due to a family situation.
We lost our deposit on a trip to Thailan due to a health situation.
We tried to go to Japan but hte missions agency told us we weren't ready (they were right).
We tried to be missionaries - the kinds of Christians who gave up their normal life for an overseas mission-life. However, it turns out God wants us right here in Caloundra.
While there is a world that needs to know Jesus and his love, there's so much to do in our church, our households and our neighbourhoods!
Do you know that pretty much every single Sunday there are people in our church who are yet to, or just have, put their faith in Jesus?!
There are people who didn't grow up in church like you.
There are people who don't have the stable life or family that you do.
There are people who don't know the Bible like you do.
There are people who don't have decades of godly wisdom to draw on
And every one of us has something to offer these people. Even if you're brand new to faith, you have a story, the presence of God's Holy Spirit and spiritual gifts to bless these people with!
It may be, that just like Martine and I, your local church is your mission field? It may be that your housemates, family or children are the ones God's calling you to disciple? It may be that the people you work with will be the ones who respond to the light and love of God that you carry.
See, missionaries aren't people who go overseas with God's love. They are simply the ones that are willing to take and share God's love with those they live amongst.
That's why Martine, myself and everyone of faith reading this would benefit from seeing where we are right now as our own mission field highlighted by God for this season we're all in.
So, if you're like Martine and I were, always dreaming of being a missionary, it may not be that you lack the courage, sacrifice or finances to pull it off. Maybe you are just like we've been for much of our lives, surprised that God isn't calling every one of us overseas, but that he needs many of us to live a life of mission right where we are!

After nominations for Governance Group members closed on the 16th of July, the following members outlined below have been nominated requiring approval for appointment to the Governance Group:

As the number of nominations being proposed will constitute the minimum requirements for a Governance Group, an open vote of members will suffice for approval and appointment.
