“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).
- Matthew 1:23
Ahoy Open Road!
With formals happening, the sun (finally) shining, and holidays approaching, we are on a fast track to Christmas!
This means a few things:
4pm start time
We'll be moving to 4pm "start" times on the beach. If this is a challenge for you, please REPLY and let us know your situation. Some have already started exploring Marcello + Marielas' morning Home Church as an alternative over the break. You're welcome to join them!
Worship with us
Over the holidays we'll continue to worship, including on January 4th, where we are hoping to have our wonderful Coastal Youth team lead us in worship!
Our minds focus on miracles
No matter how the world will aim to distract us with busy-ness, food and consumption, Christmas is, by definition, the time we recall the light of heaven lighting up the darkness of the world.
It's the time we celebrate the miraculous gift of Jesus Christ.
Without diminishing the powerful truth of Christ's sin-crushing, soul-enriching, life-giving work within us, this should be our annual reminder that miracles - albeit rare - are possible.
If we experienced daily miracles, they would cease to be special. However, everything we know of God as revealed in the scriptures, welcomes our desire for miracles.
In the season of the year where our minds are brought to the miraculous, gracious gift of Jesus, I want to encourage you to consider, "Is there a need for a miracle in my life?".
While Jesus makes it clear that he expects us to make very unmiraculous decisions to obey him in all areas of life, there are circumstances we find ourselves in where no human effort is sufficient to bring about the change we believe we're designed for.
One of the many beauties of faith in Jesus is that you're invited to ask for a miracle.
Over the next two weeks I'm wanting to invite you to consider, "Do I need a [Christmas] miracle?"
I don't know your circumstances, nor can I predict God's will for your life, but, as Dan wonderfully highlighted on Sunday, I can be confident that every trouble or fear we have is perfectly countered by turning our hearts to Jesus.
Would you be courageous enough to examine the needs in your life and bring them to Jesus this Christmas season? If you are a regular, you know many of us have experienced miracles of provision, fertility, forgiveness and healing. While we can't demand miracles from God, we are welcome to ask, and in doing so, learn to trust him through every season of life.
We'll join you in this act of simple courage by praying with you and for you as we gather to worship on Sunday, Dec 7th.
Much love,
Dan
